The fetal stages of the band Slipknot began way back in 1993 in the basement of Paul Gray. Although the band did not assemble under the title Slipknot, Anders doesn\u2019t re-call that they had fully settled on a name yet but Clown wrote the name \u2018Painface\u2019 on one of the rehearsal tapes. The group had the aggressive feel you\u2019d expect from Anders Colsefni, Shawn Crahan, Paul Gray and Patrick Neuwirth. During this early period the songs \u201cSlipknot\u201d, \u201cGently\u201d, \u201cIdiot\u201d, \u201cWhat\u2019s Wrong\u201d and \u201cWise up\u201d were recorded, later to be known as \u201cThe basement sessions\u201d. Unfortunately Shawn got to busy with work and the project fell through.<\/p>\n

Who is Pat Neuwirth?<\/strong>
Patrick M. Neuwirth (nicknamed NEKCHECK) or Pat was in the original Slipknot line-up in 91-93.
Pat used to help Shawn Crahan\u2019s first band \u2018Heads On The Wall\u2019 which also had\u00a0Quan Nong\u00a0<\/span>(ex-slipknot guitarist)<\/em>.<\/p>\n

When Pat was with the band,\u00a0they went by the name\u201cPull My Finger\u201d later shortened to \u201cPull\u201d. Andy renamed the band \u201cPainface\u201d shortly after Pat left. Pat was the very first guitarist, but he only played with the guys for a few months during the spring of 1993.
When Slipknot reformed in late 1995, it featured a new line-up.<\/p>\n

Why was Pat\u2019s nickname \u2018Nekcheck\u2019?
It wasn\u2019t, as far as I knew. That was the tentative name of the band we put-together in \u201992. Not Slipknot.\u00a0<\/em>
\u2018NeckChek\u2019 or whatever was something Shawn really dug, but Paul and I didn\u2019t really care for as a band name. We didn\u2019t get far enough to need a band name yet.

As for time-frames regarding Shawn and Pat, I honestly don\u2019t know. I was busy working, raising my little boys, and trying to keep Body Pit together.
