David Pritt<\/strong><\/p>\n How did you join On A Pale Horse?<\/p>\n Josh Brainard<\/strong><\/p>\n An old mutual friend of the band called and said he had a project for me\u2026 It was a creatively bankrupt time for me, so I was totally ready for something new. I tried it and loved the vibe. Though it\u2019s a totally different band now- we still had basic ideas that we were developing, and that is what made it exciting.<\/p>\n David Pritt<\/strong><\/p>\n When you first became a guitarist for the band did it feel comfortable?<\/p>\n Josh Brainard<\/strong><\/p>\n I actually recorded a song in the studio before I even jammed with the band\u2026 so I was a little daunted in the beginning. From there I have grown as a player and musician and part of that growth was being in the band, so from there I could say that I GREW to be comfortable.<\/p>\n David Pritt<\/strong><\/p>\n Did you automatically bond with the band?<\/p>\n Josh Brainard<\/strong><\/p>\n I think so\u2026 I spent four hours a week in the car driving back and forth from practice with Jeremy the first few months I joined, and they were totally my crutch going through my divorce\u2026 up to and including our old drummer Greg letting me stay with him for awhile. I have(had) lots of different bonds with everyone in the band.<\/p>\n David Pritt<\/strong><\/p>\n When developing music, what did you have in mind?<\/p>\n Josh Brainard<\/strong><\/p>\n The thing I like most about Pale Horse is the fact that we seem to be going the exact opposite way of most of the industry. I think what we all have in mind is to make music that we like to hear and play\u2026 even if it isn\u2019t anything resembling the schlep on the radio\u2026 and what we like to hear and play is rock and roll. It\u2019s all about Gibson guitars and Miller High Life. \\m\/ When did you feel that On A Pale Horse were a band?<\/p>\n Josh Brainard<\/strong><\/p>\n Nick\u2019s joining kind of sealed the deal on that. He came at a time when, I believe, we finally knew where we were going and had started down the path. He was basically the missing engine, because we were pushing the car up to that point.<\/p>\n David Pritt<\/strong><\/p>\n How was this band, compare with earlier bands, such as Slipknot?<\/p>\n Josh Brainard<\/strong><\/p>\n No comparison. Apples to oranges. This band is like nothing I have ever been a part of. I have never seen five people get along as well as we do.<\/p>\n David Pritt<\/strong><\/p>\n How did you feel about Andy leaving On A Pale Horse?<\/p>\n Josh Brainard<\/strong><\/p>\n I have known Andy for 15 years almost\u2026 this was the third band I had been in with him. It\u2019s always(usually) a bummer when someone leaves a band\u2026 these are people that you bleed, sweat, and share your heart with. Never easy, but a rigor of the job. Andy\u00d5s departure didn\u00d5t turn out to be the setback I thought it would be initially we got lucky with Aaron but on a personal level I miss the guy, he makes me laugh.<\/p>\n David Pritt<\/strong><\/p>\n How did you feel about Aaron joining On A Pale Horse?<\/p>\n Josh Brainard<\/strong><\/p>\n Aaron really kicks ass. He is a good person and a great friend and an amazing person to have in and around your band, no matter what he is doing. He can play guitar, bass, sing and he can write riffs too. I didn\u2019t really know him that well before\u2026 looking back I have NO idea why we were never in a band together before. David Pritt<\/strong><\/p>\n How was the recording process to you?<\/p>\n Josh Brainard<\/strong><\/p>\n I always love to be in the studio. I say there are 2 cool things about being musician (3 if you are single ) David Pritt<\/strong><\/p>\n Did you have any encouragement during the recording process?<\/p>\n Josh Brainard<\/strong><\/p>\n I could get Jeremy to bring me a beer from the cooler on a good day.<\/p>\n David Pritt<\/strong><\/p>\n What has been your most memorable live show?<\/p>\n Josh Brainard<\/strong><\/p>\n This last summers Lazerfest was cool, It was cool for me to share something I felt so personally connected to with that many people (8000+ I think). Also the time we opened for a Kiss tribute band,\u00a0It was the closest I will probably ever get to opening for Kiss. \u00c4\u00bc<\/p>\n David Pritt<\/strong><\/p>\n What has been your Highlight of OAPH?<\/p>\n Josh Brainard<\/strong><\/p>\n Lazer fest was one, we actually got voted on to that show. Recording the Album, hearing Come On for the first time on air. Lots of things.<\/p>\n David Pritt<\/strong><\/p>\n Where do you see On A Pale Horse in the future?<\/p>\n Josh Brainard<\/strong><\/p>\n To be the only signed band in America that STILL won\u00d5t use pro tools. Nada.<\/p>\n David Pritt<\/strong><\/p>\n In your own words, describe your experience with On A Pale Horse<\/p>\n Josh Brainard<\/strong><\/p>\n I have the coolest people in the world in my band. I love them all like brothers, and I don\u00d5t ever want to be in a band with anyone else. Musically I\u00d5m very emotionally connected to pale horse, most of it reminds me of something very personal, or I wrote it about something very personal. With the hard times and personal problems I had early on in the band, Pale Horse became the backdrop and the soundtrack of my revolution examples. Lyrics to \u00d2Come On\u00d3 are about my brothers in this band, our unity, our purposes and passions. Music to \u00d2Break the Bread\u00d3 was written out of emotion I felt for another person and the music, to me, tells a story that is personal to me. Aaron\u2019s joining was definitely a breath of fresh air, a new chapter and all that, and I knew that I liked the sound initially, I just had no idea until we got to the studio how dramatically it changed the dynamic of Pale Horse\u2026. getting into the studio with him was like \u201cYup\u2026 this is what we were after, alright.\u201d<\/p>\n

The process for BINTDC was fun for me because I really got my hands dirty with the mixing and mastering\u2026 something I had never really done much of before. I also loved adding all of the little things on, piano on the flood, the bridge on Eagle OTM. Aaron was amazing to watch\u2026 there were lots of last minute additions vocally (including my parts). I can\u2019t fathom how we ever played the songs before without some of these parts.<\/p>\n
We will also have a Taquito endorsement.<\/p>\n
Pale Horse is as big a part of me as I am of it. The band would be very different without me, and I would be a different person without the band.<\/p>\n
